Reed beds

Sale Green Sewage
Treatment Works, DroitwichReed beds offer an alternative and effective method of supplementary sewage treatment. As framework contractors to the Environment Agency, we understand the sensitive ecological requirements of these types of works.

We have constructed reed beds in rural locations throughout the West Midlands and Wales. We also have considerable experience on the associated sewage treatment works. For more information on this aspect of our work, please visit Sewage treatment works.

Our experience on reed beds began in the early 1990s with two reed beds in the village of Bobbington, near Stourbridge.

Further reed bed works were carried out around that time in Shropshire at Bishops Castle and Stoke St. Margaret.

More recently reed beds have been constructed at Clive, Bettws Cedewain, Whittington and Montgomery and Sale Green for Severn Trent Water. The work was often in conjunction with other sewage treatment construction.

2007 saw us complete a large four reed bed system at Throckmorton near Pershore for DEFRA and a smaller reed bed at the village of Adfa, Powys, about twelve miles north west of Newtown.

We enjoy working on reed bed construction as it embodies a series of disciplines on each project including earthmoving, geotextiles, membranes, gabions, brick or concrete chambers, pipework, gravel placement, launder channels and footpaths. All are essential elements in reed bed construction and fully utilise our multi-skilled workforce.

In our Project Portfolio and Gallery you will find information on natural reed bed projects at Drakelow, Poulton Court and Youlbury North End.

To discuss your forthcoming reed bed works, please contact our Estimators, Stan Good or Graham Pope, in the first instance.
