The lake in Riverside Park had been silting up for many years, so much so that the local ducks were beginning to walk over parts of the lake.  Envirocentre of Glasgow were commissioned to prepare a desilting scheme and proposals for modifying the inlet and outlets to reduce the silt build up in the future.

Desilting is one of our favourite operations.  Having been chosen to tender for the work, Birch Brothers’ tender in the sum of £65,000 was accepted by Fife Council on the basis of price, experience and methodology.

The month long contract was completed in mid October 2010.  The photographs show the desilting operations, the new basic inlet and outlets and the silt tip 6 miles away at the Council’s Lower Melville Wood Landfill site.  Upon drying the silt will be used as a growth medium over part of the site

Our thanks go to Fife Council, Envirocentre and SEPA staff who were extremely professional as well as a pleasure to work with but most of all our thanks go out to Kelly running the park catering concession who kept our lads well fed and watered throughout.
