The River Frome at the edge of the Industrial Estate had begun to erode the river bank endangering an adjoining factory unit.

We were engaged to design and construct a permanent protection scheme. A high voltage overhead cable immediately above the site prevented the use of a crane and so we originally considered a run of contiguous reinforced concrete bored piles. Ultimately ground conditions ruled out this construction method and we reverted to the sheet pile wall shown in the attached photographs. We were obliged to drive and weld a series of short piles using a 7 tonne 360° excavator which could work safely beneath the overhead cables.

The contract was completed in April 2011.

The re-growth of adjoining trees and bushes will soon hide the unavoidably intrusive effect of the piles.
