The West Highland Way, a long distance walk, skirts the Eastern shore of Loch Lomond. High winds and high water levels over a period had caused erosion over a 40 metre length. Our client chose to remedy the problem by using stone filled gabions fronted by rock armour, all of which was to be blended back into the surroundings by a sensitive tree, shrub and grass planting regime.

Birch Brothers, because of our company experience on this type of work, were selected to tender from an impressive number of applicants. Our tender was successful and the bulk of the work undertaken in late September/early October 2010. The soft plantings are scheduled for Spring 2011.

This scheme along with a concurrent contract at Glenrothes for Fife Council was our first experience of river and loch/lake works in Scotland. We enjoyed meeting and working with all those that we came into contact with, both professionally and socially and would welcome the opportunity of returning to Scotland.
