The Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst is a national institution. The buildings and scenery are absolutely stunning and complement fully the extremely high standards of training undertaken at the establishment.
Birch Brothers were extremely pleased to be chosen to undertake this prestigious contract which required all our construction and environmental management skills developed over many years.
At the upper lake it became necessary to lower the impoundment depth of water against the dam by 200mm. At the same time leaks in the dam at the spillway position required remediation as did the spillway itself.
Consulting Engineers, Barron & Partners in conjunction with Chris Hoskins of C.H. Consultancy Ltd solved the problem by a composite scheme involving sheet piles, reinforced concrete and gabions with the lake level lowered by 600mm for the duration.
The contract commenced in late October 2008 and was complete in mid-March 2009 with an official opening ceremony by Major General D.J. Rutherford-Jones, Commandant of Sandhurst.
