The small village of Holy Cross between Belbroughton and Clent in North Worcestershire suffered very badly during the summer floods of 2007. Our client, Worcestershire County Council, to help overcome the flood problem, designed a new highway drainage system. We were awarded the contract in competitive tender, commenced in July and completed in September 2009.

The design options were very limited resulting in 270 linear metres of 300mm diameter storm water sewer at depths up to 3.5m, the deeper sections being in extremely hard local sandstone. As well as the main drain there were 6 No manholes, 19 No road gulleys and 96m of associated 150mm and 225mm pipework – value £105,000.

Due to the narrow streets, the work was carried out under road closures with local traffic diversions in place. Our thanks go to the residents of Holy Cross and nearby villages for bearing with us during an inconvenient two months.
