River bank profiling at Drakelow Nature ReserveDrakelow Nature Reserve river bank profiling

Client: The Environment Agency
Value: £72,000

There were two key requirements of this contract, namely:

  • improvement of flows on a bend in the River Trent by widening the main river channel and re-profiling the south bank
  • the creation of a fluvial reed bed on a ledge in the river and a still water reed bed in ponds backing onto the river

Our photographs of the scheme include our first ever otter holt construction and the cormorants' nests abutting the ponds.

We had already prepared a stable base before reducing the fill levels to flood the otter holt.
