Flood Protection, Flood Prevention and Flood Alleviation

For many years Birch Brothers has worked in conjunction with the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water and Local Government throughout the Midlands on civil engineering flood protection schemes large and small.

The high rainfall of the summer of 2007 has highlighted the need for a major rethink on anti-flooding measures nationally. We are sure that the problems of flood prevention will be high on the list of government priorities in the years ahead.

Recommendations at the present time if you have suffered flooding:

• Record the highest flood level
• Note where the water enters your land
• If water has entered your land from the ground or drains beneath, make sure you know where
• Check who else has been affected
• Did the water come from a watercourse, highway drainage or surface flows from higher land?

we have actually encountered or seen on the television could have been prevented or at least reduced, without major cost.

Since the floods of 2007 we have been advising the Environment Agency on practical, cost effective flood protection measures.  In 2011 we expect to commence as principal contractor on the first of these major schemes
